Advice on How to Boost Gamma Resistance for Flexible and Rigid Medical Grade PVC

For flexible medical PVC, anti-oxidants can serve to boost Gamma resistance. However, in some cases they might not create sufficient Gamma resistance and a specialized Gamma stabilizer like RS-06 shall be used.

However, Gamma sterilization could pose much more severe damage for rigid medical PVC than for flexible one. Anti-oxidants are totally inefficient for rigid medical PVC. As a specialized Gamma stabilizer, RS-06 is particularly efficient in protecting rigid PVC against Gamma irradiation. Of course, RS-06 shall be used at a larger dosage in rigid than in flexible.

Overall, the dosages for RS-06, which is in fine powder form, are recommended as follows.

Flexible: 0.05 – 0.10 phr;

Semi-rigid: 0.10 – 0.15 phr;

Rigid: 0.15 – 0.25 phr.

We also provide RS-08, a liquid radiation cum sterilization stabilizer for flexible PVC. RS-08 shows excellent dispersion in a plasticizer and hence is suitable for use as a Gamma stabilizer in flexible PVC.
